For more than 70 years, the Lighthouse Camp on Barnegat Bay was a summer retreat for the blind and handicapped. When the camp was closed, owner Lighthouse International worked with Coalition Member Trust for Public Land to protect the 90-acre site and find an alternative use for the camp's 27 buildings. The project was part of TPL's Barnegat Bay Initiative, which has so far protected more than 6,500 acres in this 450-square-mile landscape of tidal shoreline, back bay islands, marsh creeks and pine-oak forest on the New Jersey shore.
